To stop Gears of War: E-Day reading menus aloud, open Settings, select Accessibility and turn off Menu Narration. This applies to the 6 October 2026 release on PC and Xbox Series X|S, using The Coalition's support page checked on 8 October. The option controls the screen narrator for menus, text and notifications.

Change the narrator rather than all audio

Settings is available from the main menu or during play. Under Accessibility, find Menu Narration. You can also adjust the narrator's speed, voice and volume there if you want to keep spoken assistance. Menu Narrator Volume also appears in the Audio tab. Use these dedicated controls when the voice is reading interface elements; lowering Primary Volume affects the whole audio mix.

Return to a menu to check whether its text is still being spoken. If you want narration back, return to the same setting and enable it. The initial first-launch accessibility setup also includes Menu narration, so this voice can be an enabled accessibility option rather than a sound fault. Tom's Guide reviewed the Steam PC release and lists Xbox Series X/S alongside it; the setting route here comes from the developer's documentation.

Identify a chat voice separately

If the remaining voice reads other players' written messages, check Text-to-Speech under Accessibility instead. That setting requires Text Chat to be enabled. Speech-to-Text does the reverse: it displays voice chat as text. Neither is the menu narrator. For players speaking over a microphone, the Audio tab has Voice Chat and Voice Chat Volume controls.

Change the control that matches the sound's source, then check that source again. Keep a note of your previous choice if you want to restore it. This guide does not prescribe a reinstall, driver change or save-file edit: the documented solution is a setting. It also makes no claim that one narration option controls every spoken sound in the game.
