To continue your Xbox save in Gears of War: E-Day on PC, use the Xbox Play Anywhere version and sign in with the same Microsoft account. Open the Xbox app on Windows and find the game in My Library. This guide covers the full release that launched on 6 October 2026, checked on 7 October. The route below is for a digital Xbox or Windows Store purchase; it does not promise a free Steam copy.
Check where you bought the game
Start with your purchase confirmation. The official E-Day page confirms Xbox Play Anywhere support with shared progression and achievements across Xbox Series X|S and PC. Microsoft's programme FAQ specifies digital purchases through the Xbox Store or Windows Store, including eligible digital codes. Look for the Xbox Play Anywhere badge rather than assuming every PC listing provides the same entitlement. Windows Central's launch review separately identifies Play Anywhere on PC and a Steam release.
A Steam listing is a separate way to access the PC game. The existence of both versions does not make an Xbox purchase a Steam licence. If your aim is to continue an Xbox save through the documented Play Anywhere route, use Xbox on PC. Do not buy a second copy simply because the game is absent from your Steam library: first check the Microsoft account and the Xbox app library associated with the purchase.
Install through your matching Xbox account
Microsoft's Play Anywhere instructions give the PC starting point: launch Xbox on Windows, sign in with your Xbox account and open My Library. Eligible owned games appear there for download. Use the account that owns your digital E-Day purchase and holds your existing progress. If you have several Microsoft accounts, compare the signed-in identity with your purchase record before assuming the game or save is missing.
Keep Windows and your console updated. The programme documentation requires the Windows 10 Anniversary Update or later and the latest Xbox console update; that is a programme prerequisite, not E-Day's complete PC specification. Check the game's current hardware requirements separately before installing. Once E-Day appears in My Library, install that version and launch it under the matching account. Finding the owned game there confirms the access route, rather than a purchase in a different storefront.

Continue with one active session
Xbox Play Anywhere saves progress with Xbox, allowing you to pick up on another supported device. Its FAQ also carries game add-ons and achievements across the programme's devices. E-Day's own FAQ confirms shared progression and achievements for this Xbox-to-PC path. This is an account-based continuation, so the published instructions do not require a USB export or a guessed local save-folder location.
Finish the session on your first device before starting on the other. Microsoft allows only one active session in the same Play Anywhere game per account at a time. When the PC version opens, check whether it offers your expected progress before continuing. If it instead presents an unexpected starting point, recheck the account and purchase route. Avoid replacing or deleting a save as a troubleshooting experiment: the documentation cited here does not prescribe that remedy.
Separate launch progress from beta rewards
If the missing progress is from August's multiplayer beta, switching devices will not restore the reset levels. The Coalition explicitly says beta Class progression, Player Level and other Medal progress do not carry into launch. The Beta Player Title, Beta Medal and earned Beta Challenge rewards do carry over. An absent beta level therefore needs a different explanation from an absent full-release save.
The beta FAQ also distinguishes account linking for cross-platform squad invitations from playing on Steam without a Microsoft account. Neither detail establishes a free Steam entitlement or a full-release campaign-save transfer procedure. Keep those questions separate from this documented Xbox app route. If your full-release progress remains missing on the correct account, retain the purchase record and details of both devices for support instead of importing instructions written for Gears 5 or Reloaded.
