To get honeycomb in Minecraft, use Shears on a bee nest or beehive that is dripping with honey. Put a lit Campfire underneath before harvesting so the bees stay calm. Use the item on the nest rather than breaking it; a Glass Bottle collects a Honey Bottle instead of honeycomb.

This guide covers unmodified Java Edition and Bedrock on PC with the Buzzy Bees features installed. They are part of the normal released game, so you do not need a snapshot or experimental world. Bring shears and a campfire before approaching a full nest.

Find a nest and wait for dripping honey

Look for bees around trees in plains, sunflower plains, oak or birch forests, or mountain meadows. Follow one to its nest if you cannot spot the block yourself. Bees return home at dusk or when rain starts, which can help you find the nest even though those conditions interrupt their daytime pollen gathering.

Inspect the nest before using your tool. Visible honey dripping from it is the cue to harvest. If it is not dripping, leave the nest intact and let the bees work: in dry daylight they visit flowers, collect pollen and return home to make honey. An empty nest is not ready simply because bees are nearby.

Prepare the campfire before using shears

Make Shears by placing two Iron Ingots diagonally in a crafting grid. For a Campfire, use a crafting table: put three logs across the bottom row, Coal or Charcoal in the centre, and Sticks directly above, left and right of the fuel. Mojang's recipe screenshot below shows the arrangement.

Place the campfire directly below the nest, check that it is burning and smoking, and keep the smoke's route clear. Do this before collecting anything: harvesting without calming the bees can provoke an attack. Avoid adding a cover or elaborate smoke arrangement for this first collection; the simple route removes another possible obstruction.

Collect honeycomb and check the result

Equip the shears, aim at the full nest and use them on it. Pick up the dropped Honeycomb and check your inventory for that item. Leave the nest where it is. Mojang documents destroying a bee nest without Silk Touch as destructive, so mining the block is a different action from harvesting its contents.

If you receive a Honey Bottle, you used a bottle instead of shears. If no honeycomb appears, check that the nest is dripping before trying again. For another harvest, wait for the bees to refill it; repeatedly using shears on a nest that is no longer full does not bypass that requirement.
