Valheim 1.0 lets you add 16 inventory slots by buying Wider Pockets and Deeper Pockets from Haldor, the merchant in the Black Forest. Each purchase adds one row of eight slots; neither requires a mod. Iron Gate confirms the new pocket upgrades in its launch notes. The exact boss requirements and coin prices below come from PC Gamer's postlaunch guide, rather than our own play test.
Find Haldor in the Black Forest
Search Black Forest regions away from the centre of your world. Haldor's location varies with your world seed, so there is no universal map coordinate to follow. If you have already discovered him, follow his map marker instead of searching again.
As you approach his camp, a white bag appears on the map. Look for the tent, wagon and lox, then speak to Haldor. The pocket upgrades are shop purchases, not recipes to make at a workbench.

Defeat Moder, the Mountains boss, then return to Haldor with coins. PC Gamer reports that Wider Pockets costs 1,000 coins and adds eight slots. Open your inventory after buying it: the grid should have five rows instead of four, including the hotbar. If the item is absent from Haldor's stock, check that the required boss has been defeated before treating the shop as broken.
Once The Queen in the Mistlands has been defeated, visit Haldor again. PC Gamer reports that Deeper Pockets costs 2,000 coins and adds another eight slots. Your inventory should then have six rows, or 48 slots in total including the hotbar. KeenGamer notes that these purchases add grid space without raising your carry weight. If weight is the limit stopping your journey, extra empty squares alone will not fix it.
