If your PS5 DualSense controller is not working in Rocket League on Windows PC, start with Epic's controller-specific procedure: update its software, disconnect it, restart the PC, then reconnect. Sony's PlayStation Accessories app lets you update the pad without a PS5. Check that the PC sees the controller before changing game bindings or adding another launcher.
This is a supported troubleshooting sequence for Steam and Epic Games Launcher, not a guaranteed repair for every controller fault. The scope is a DualSense failing to respond, rather than stick drift or missing vibration. Psyonix's v2.77 notes and Known Issues page, both dated 6 October 2026, do not identify a universal DualSense detection fix.
Update the controller through Sony's PC app
Download PlayStation Accessories from Sony's official controller site. Its listed requirements include Windows 10 64-bit or Windows 11, at least 250 MB of storage and a 1280 x 800 display. Close Rocket League, open the app and connect the DualSense using a USB cable with a Type-C connector at the controller. The app supports firmware updates for both DualSense and DualSense Edge; customisation features are for Edge.
- Find the connected controller in PlayStation Accessories.
- Check its firmware information. Select Update if a newer version is available, then follow the prompts.
- Keep the controller connected and the PC switched on throughout the update. Update multiple controllers individually.
If Update is absent, do not assume the process failed: Sony says it appears when a new version is available. Note the displayed firmware version. Once finished, close PlayStation Accessories before trying the game; Sony specifically recommends closing the app when a game is not working properly. Do not look for a Rocket League patch inside the controller updater.
Restart and reconnect before opening the game
Follow the remaining order in Epic's DualSense support article: disconnect the controller, restart the PC, then reconnect using USB or Bluetooth. Save other work before restarting. Begin with USB to make the connection check simpler, then open Rocket League through the launcher you normally use. Test menu navigation and the controls in a safe practice session before joining an online match.
Keep the observations separate. A controller listed in Sony's app establishes a connection to that application; it does not prove Rocket League is receiving every input. Equally, working menu navigation does not confirm that your usual steering, jump and boost bindings behave correctly. Record what responds and what fails. This helps support distinguish total non-detection from an individual control problem.

Check the Bluetooth pairing destination
If USB works but Bluetooth does not, check the wireless connection separately. Sony's first-pairing instructions say to disconnect USB, turn the controller off, then hold create and PS until the light bar blinks. Enable Bluetooth on the PC and select the controller from the discovered devices. A completed pairing is a PC connection check, rather than a promise about a particular game's controller support.
A DualSense can now retain up to four device pairings. Simply pressing PS reconnects to the last device used, which may be your console instead of the PC. If you have assigned the PC a slot, hold PS with that slot's action button for about three seconds to switch: triangle for slot one, circle for two, cross for three or square for four. Use Sony's pairing instructions if you have not assigned a slot.
Escalate the remaining fault with useful evidence
PC Gamer's DualSense setup guide describes Steam as a useful compatibility route for PC games. That general advice does not replace Epic's specific update-and-reconnect sequence. If the pad connects to the PC but still fails only in Rocket League, keep the launcher, connection method, firmware version and exact failing inputs available for support. Avoid changing several input settings together, which makes the result harder to interpret.
Epic directs unresolved DualSense cases to PlayStation Controllers Support. If the controller is not connecting properly outside the game either, Sony's support page offers a reset and then a repairs route. Return to the working USB connection if a Bluetooth comparison fails; there is no firmware downgrade step in the cited procedure. Keep your existing bindings intact while investigating detection.
