To unlock ranked play in Rocket League, open the Challenge widget on the right of the main menu, select New Driver and complete its challenges. Reaching Level 20 or Level 25 is not the current alternative. If the message names all party members, check everyone's completion; one eligible driver cannot unlock the playlist for the group.
This PC guide covers Season 24 and v2.77, released on 6 October 2026. The New Driver prerequisite began with Season 20 on 17 September 2025. Psyonix's current Known Issues page confirms its reinstatement and a later fix for parties incorrectly showing completed challenges as unfinished. Start with the displayed requirement before assuming your account needs more XP.
Open New Driver, then follow its requirements
Select the Challenge widget to the right of the main menu. This is the documented place to track challenge progress and claim rewards. Inside the Challenges menu, choose the New Driver tab. Weekly, Season and Limited Time Event are separate tabs; completing an unrelated challenge there does not establish that your New Driver list is finished.
Read each unfinished objective and meet the requirement shown, including any specified mode. Return to the widget afterwards to compare its counter and collect available rewards. Use the actual checklist on your account: Psyonix's public access notes do not supply a complete current list, so a remembered number of wins or matches is not a reliable completion check.
The confirmation is that the New Driver tab disappears once all its challenges are complete. You should then be able to access Competitive Playlists. Claiming rewards belongs to the normal challenge workflow; it is not a documented universal fix for a broken unlock. If a counter remains unfinished, concentrate on that objective rather than grinding your account level.
Do not use the old level shortcuts
THESPIKE.GG's October 2025 Driver Challenges guide describes the replacement of the old Level 20 rule, but another passage still offers Level 20 as an alternative. Psyonix's later fix notice is clearer: the temporary Level 25 eligibility requirement was removed in v2.63, and New Driver Challenges were reinstated as the Competitive prerequisite.
That makes advice to reach either level an unreliable answer to the current challenge message. Account XP and a finished New Driver checklist are different progress checks. Look for the remaining task in New Driver even if your level is already higher than those older thresholds.
Check matches that did not count
Epic's challenge support page says matches must reach a minimum time threshold before they contribute to challenge progress. It does not publish the duration. Stay in matches rather than leaving early to cycle attempts, and follow any mode condition written on the objective. There is no verified seconds-based shortcut here.
Compare the displayed counter before and after a qualifying attempt. That is a useful diagnostic check, not a guarantee that every progress fault will repair itself. If the requirement was met but the counter did not move, keep its exact wording and a record of the attempt for support.
Separate party eligibility from the fixed party bug
If you are grouped, ask each player to check their own New Driver completion. Epic specifically tells affected parties to ensure every member has completed the challenges. An experienced teammate's level alone is not confirmation that the requirement is satisfied.
There was also a genuine party fault: Psyonix lists a v2.76 fix for being in a party marking completed New Driver challenges as incomplete and blocking matchmaking. Make sure the game is updated before treating an old report as current behaviour. If the message persists on v2.77 despite everyone's completion, record the error and party details for support; the fix notice does not prove that every remaining account problem has the same cause.
Check a recent Primary Platform change
If the requirement returned after changing your Primary Platform, Epic says this is intended for affected players. Complete New Driver Challenges again on the new primary platform. Do not assume that earlier completion elsewhere removes that requirement, and do not switch platforms repeatedly as an undocumented workaround.
For unresolved access, use Rocket League support and its current Known Issues page. Include your platform, the exact message, whether you are in a party, the displayed challenge progress and any recent Primary Platform change. Those details distinguish an unfinished prerequisite from the documented platform branch or a fault that still needs investigation.
