A goalkeeper joining the last attack is one of Football Manager 27's new touchline options. You can send him forward without opening the Tactics screen, swap your wingers or ask the team to play with more urgency. Those quick adjustments are part of a broader set of changes linking the football you ask for with the squad's preparation.
Sports Interactive's management sim arrives on PC on 10 November, through Steam, Epic and the Xbox PC app, including PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. SEGA lists a UK retail price of £49.99. This preview concerns the PC game; the separately announced Console and Mobile editions aren't a reason to assume every system described here works identically across them.
A plan your squad can follow
Tactical Effectiveness brings four measures together: Tactical Understanding, Player Ability, Player Buy-In and Next Match Information. Gauges in Tactics, Training and Recruitment show how equipped the squad is to carry out your instructions. Tactical Complexity measures the detail of those instructions. Sports Interactive's example is a lower-league side struggling with fluid football and relentless counter-pressing: adding instructions can ask more than your players can deliver.

Scout reports also show tactical fit, so recruitment includes judging whether a target can slot into your approach or will take time to learn it. A strong technical rating and a suitable signing aren't automatically the same thing. That gives the transfer decision a useful connection to the training ground: you can consider how much preparation a prospective signing will require.
Senior training emphasises the next match, cohesion and tactical understanding; individual development remains available. Training moves onto the primary navigation bar, with copy-and-paste schedules returning and workload indicators covering the weeks ahead. The appeal is practical: spend less time rebuilding a recurring plan, then see how the squad is absorbing it.
Changes from the dugout
During a match, Tactical Tweaks let you ask for longer passes, exploit width or reduce the press. They stay active until you deselect them, and staff can recommend when to start or stop one through the dugout feed. These are tactical instructions alongside Shouts, which Sports Interactive says now affect players' mental state and produce more individual reactions.
The match engine changes give those decisions more specific ingredients. New box-attacking instructions include arriving late or attacking the defensive line, with near-post, far-post and central destinations depending on position. Higher Anticipation and Off The Ball attributes help players make intelligent runs. Stamina has a larger role in repeated sprinting and condition over 90 minutes, giving the bench a clear place in the announced changes.
The demonstrations use a development build, so their visual details may change. FM27 is most inviting to managers who enjoy changing a side's approach as much as picking its best eleven. Knowing why a recruit suits the plan has value before a ball is kicked; being able to reduce the press has value once the match is under way. These are useful additions for that kind of tinkerer to follow into November.
