A sandbike race can advance a political faction in Dune: Awakening. At Smugglers Run, players race a timed course and earn exploration experience, according to game director Joel Bylos in PC Gamer's reporting. It sounds like a strange way to influence the Landsraad, the game's contest between noble houses. That strangeness is the point of its rebuilt endgame: the faction board now attaches political progress to specific things you do across Arrakis, rather than treating politics as a separate menu or a compulsory fight with other players.
A faction board with work to do
Funcom's Chapter 3 patch replaced the old resource turn-ins with Landsraad missions. Pick a house on the board, see its available missions and accept one on that house's behalf. The list spans dungeons, time trials, exploration, combat, crafting and gathering. A successful mission increases that house's progress while paying Solari, character experience and contribution points. It can also yield specialisation experience, faction standing and House Scrip for high-quality crafting components. Politics becomes a reason to choose a particular expedition, and the expedition returns more than one kind of progress.
Smugglers Run makes that arrangement easier to picture. Bylos told PC Gamer that beating its sandbike course earns exploration experience, which can be spent on traits such as faster vehicle use. The race is not simply a diversion before the next faction task; it is one of the ways a player's preferred activity can feed both a house's standing and a personal build. A player who likes moving through the world gets a different route through the same contest from somebody who would rather craft or fight.

The rewards give the board a second job
The specialisation tracks make the choice more specific. Funcom names crafting, gathering, exploration, combat and sabotage, with traits that can affect inventory space, resource yields, damage and access to augmentation technology. Missions therefore help decide which skills develop, while those skills can change how the next mission feels. That is a stronger reason to return to a faction board than a single contribution total. The patch also extends faction ranks to 20: missions carry players through ranks six to 19 before a separate outpost mission awards the final rank.
There are limits to that freedom. The patch says bonus rewards such as specialisation experience and House Scrip use Mnemonic Recollections: five are granted daily and up to 35 can be stored. Contribution points, Solari and character experience can be earned repeatedly, but the more build-defining rewards have a daily allowance. That detail matters if you imagine the board as an endless way to reshape a character in one session. The game gives players several kinds of work, then still puts a rhythm on part of the return.
A council without a crowd
The console launch gives this older Chapter 3 redesign a new context. Dune: Awakening reached Xbox Series X|S on 22 September after its PC release, and Funcom says the current Landsraad works in both multiplayer PvE and the newly available single-player mode. In solo play, rival faction activity is simulated. The board can still present a contest, but that simulation cannot offer the bargaining, rivalry or surprise of real people. That distinction is worth keeping in view when the same system is described as available in every mode.
The interesting change is what the contest asks of you before the score moves. A dungeon run, a crafted item and a fast sandbike lap can each serve a noble house, while also developing different parts of your character. It makes the Landsraad less like a remote scoreboard and more like an itinerary through Arrakis. Whether that itinerary stays compelling over many weeks needs longer play evidence. For a new console player, though, the design is already legible: decide how you want to spend an evening, then see which house benefits from it.
