You do not have to lower the combat difficulty to make Marvel's Wolverine less graphic. Its Violence Customization controls are separate from Challenge Level, so blood, dismemberment and the damage shown on Logan's body can be reduced while enemy health, enemy damage and stealth awareness remain where you set them. On the first boot, use the initial customisation menu before the game begins. If you have already started, reopen the accessibility settings and find Violence Customization. The three individual controls give more precision than the preset.

Install the launch update before choosing

Insomniac's official accessibility list covers features included on the disc and features delivered in the first update at launch. It marks some launch-update additions with an asterisk, but the three Violence Customization controls are not marked that way. That means Dynamic Blood, Dismemberment and Visceral Healing are documented as on-disc features. Disc owners should still install the launch update before the first full play session because other accessibility tools, including Audio Description and cinematic replay, are specifically marked as update additions. If the menu differs from this guide, check that the game is fully updated before troubleshooting.

The first-time user experience opens a customisation menu when the game is first booted, according to Insomniac. Use it rather than rushing through to the opening scene: it is the documented point at which the full accessibility setup can be adjusted before play begins. The Violence Preset offers Some or Full, but that broad choice is only a starting point. Select the preset closest to what you want, then review the three separate controls underneath. This avoids changing more of the presentation than necessary and makes the result easier to understand.

Turn off blood and dismemberment separately

Dynamic Blood controls blood from impacts in both gameplay and cinematics. Turn it off when blood spray is the main problem. Dismemberment is a different control: switching it off removes dismemberment during gameplay and blurs it in cinematics. The distinction matters because disabling blood alone does not promise to remove severed limbs, and disabling dismemberment does not mean every trace of blood is hidden. For the least graphic presentation supported by the documented settings, disable both instead of relying on only one of them.

Visceral Healing controls how much physical damage appears on Logan's body during gameplay and cinematics. Reduce or disable it if the sight of wounds closing is uncomfortable even after blood and dismemberment are off. This setting concerns the visible healing effect, not health recovery as a combat rule. Insomniac describes it as changing the level of physical damage displayed on Logan's body. The official wording does not say that it changes healing speed, health values or regeneration, so do not treat it as a difficulty option.

Leave Challenge Level unchanged

Challenge Level is listed separately under Gameplay Assists. Its documented controls adjust Stealth Awareness, Enemy Health and Enemy Damage. If you only want to change the game's violent presentation, leave those three values untouched. You can therefore keep the same detection speed, the same amount of damage enemies can take and the same damage they deal while reducing graphic effects. Independent launch testing by TechRadar also reports that violence and gore can be tailored alongside separate difficulty and gameplay assists, supporting the distinction in Insomniac's menu documentation.

Do not use the broad Motor, Vision or Motion Sensitivity presets as substitutes for Violence Customization. Those presets group controls for different access needs, while the violence section directly names the content you are trying to change. A useful check is to make one change, continue into a short encounter, and return to the settings if the presentation is still too strong. The game also keeps a Recent Settings section containing the 20 most recently changed options, which should make it easier to find and reverse an adjustment without rebuilding the whole setup.

Know what the settings do not promise

The documented controls reduce specific visual and audio elements; they do not convert the game into a non-violent story. Combat, attacks and violent situations remain part of the experience, even when blood is hidden and cinematic dismemberment is blurred. The separate US English Profanity Filter silences profane words and replaces them visually with asterisks, but Insomniac lists that as an audio assist rather than part of the violence preset. Enable it separately if language is also a concern, and note the stated US English limitation before expecting the same behaviour in another voice language.

Insomniac may rename or regroup settings in a later patch, so use the function names in this guide rather than assuming their exact position will never move. The reliable distinction at launch is the important one: Violence Customization changes presentation, while Challenge Level changes detection, health and damage. If a future version no longer shows Dynamic Blood, Dismemberment or Visceral Healing as separate entries, check Insomniac's accessibility support page before accepting a preset you cannot inspect. That page is the first-party reference for the shipped controls and launch-update additions.

The GamerGuru verdict

The least graphic setup

Blood
Turn off Dynamic Blood for impacts in gameplay and cinematics.
Dismemberment
Turn off Dismemberment to remove it in play and blur it in cinematics.
Visible wounds
Reduce Visceral Healing to limit damage shown on Logan's body.
Difficulty
Leave Stealth Awareness, Enemy Health and Enemy Damage unchanged.

Use the three individual violence controls for the clearest result; they do not require a lower challenge setting.
