Ghost of Yotei will bring Jin Sakai back as a playable fighter when its Most Wanted combat survival mode launches on PlayStation 5 on 1 October. The reveal gives the mode a clearer identity than its original announcement: Jin will arrive with his four signature stances, rather than merely appearing in a trailer or cosmetic set. Most Wanted launches alongside the Echoes of Sekigahara story expansion through patch 2.0. For existing owners, the important detail is that the patch also carries several free additions, while the new mode and expansion are part of the Complete Edition content.
Jin is a fourth fighter, not a cameo
Sucker Punch has confirmed that Jin is one of four selectable characters in Most Wanted, alongside Atsu, Oyuki and Nagato. He retains the katana and all four combat stances associated with Ghost of Tsushima, which are intended to help exploit enemy weaknesses. His starting kit also includes a Sticky Bomb and hankyu, while his Ultimate is Dance of Wrath and his Kill Streak is Ghost Stance. That puts the returning protagonist on a different footing from an unlockable skin: he has a defined combat kit within the mode's progression system.
The character choice matters because Most Wanted is framed as a series of repeatable runs, not an extra chapter in Atsu's campaign. Sucker Punch says players start by selecting a bounty, then fight waves of enemies and minibosses before a final boss. Completing waves unlocks perks for that run, while Mon earned outside runs can be spent on techniques, weapon upgrades, charms and character unlocks. The studio has not set out every balance rule or bounty at launch, but it has confirmed that players will ultimately be able to select among all four characters.
The mode uses familiar combat in a new structure
Most Wanted is described by Sucker Punch as a single-player combat survival mode and its take on a roguelike. Bounties increase in difficulty, and each centres on a member of the Yotei Six before leading towards the hardest encounter against Lord Saito. That structure makes the immediate player question less about a fresh map and more about whether the familiar weapons, parries and tools hold up across escalating encounters. The developer's stated aim is to let players experiment with builds and character loadouts rather than simply repeat a campaign mission with higher enemy counts.
The announced character kits suggest that variety will come from more than a different animation set. Atsu begins with dual katana and two Ghost Tools, Oyuki uses the kusarigama, kunai and rifle, and Nagato has a spear, pistol and bows. Jin's stances should therefore offer a more reactive, opponent-specific approach. Cosmetics earned in Most Wanted will also carry into the main game and Echoes of Sekigahara. Sony has yet to explain how long a typical run lasts, whether difficulty options affect rewards, or how extensive the pool of bosses and modifiers will be, so those are sensible details to wait for before judging its replay value.

Echoes of Sekigahara adds the story side
Most Wanted is not arriving alone. Echoes of Sekigahara is a story expansion split between Atsu's present and her earlier time on the mainland during the Battle of Sekigahara. In the present-day strand, Nagato has reached Ezo and is being hunted by the Vipers, a group of poachers operating in the previously unseen Ashoro Foothills. Sony says Atsu reluctantly teams up with him after a close ally is taken, while the expansion adds new enemy types, heavy weapons, mythic tales, abilities, armour sets and cosmetics.
That separation is useful for players deciding what the October update actually offers. Most Wanted is the repeatable combat component, while Echoes of Sekigahara is the narrative addition. The PlayStation Store says both will be delivered through patch 2.0, scheduled for 1 October globally and 2 October in some territories including Asia, Australia and New Zealand. An internet connection and PlayStation account are required to download the patch. PS5 owners outside those territories should therefore watch for the update on 1 October, rather than treating the date as a simultaneous worldwide unlock.
What existing PS5 players receive
Players who already own Ghost of Yotei can buy the Complete Edition upgrade to access Most Wanted and Echoes of Sekigahara; the precise price and offer vary by region, so the local PlayStation Store is the safest place to check. The Complete Edition also bundles the former Digital Deluxe content and a Charm of Hokkyokusei. Sony says digital purchasers who buy before 30 September can unlock Atsu's Sakai Armor early when the new content arrives. A physical Complete Edition is also scheduled for the same release window.
There is still something for base-game owners who do not upgrade. Patch 2.0 is set to add the free Beauty of Yotei viewing mode, new Watanabe Mode tracks, the option to keep one armour set's appearance while using another's statistics, and a high-contrast accessibility option. That makes 1 October a meaningful update date for any PS5 owner of the game, not only those buying the new edition. The distinction remains important, though: the story expansion and survival mode are Complete Edition content, while those quality-of-life and presentation additions are free patch features.
