If the Mastery Rank Practice option has disappeared in Warframe, you do not need to restore it before ranking up. Digital Extremes removed the waiting penalty for failed tests: start an eligible test, and you can try again if you fail. The remaining cooldown is 23 hours after a successful test.

This PC guide covers the test rules introduced in Update 38: Warframe: 1999 on 13 December 2024, checked against later update notes through Update 44.1.0: The Icebind, released on 7 October 2026. GameSpot's launch reporting also identifies removal of the failed-attempt cooldown among 1999's quality-of-life changes.

Start the rank-up test from the pause menu

Once you have enough Mastery Points for the next rank, open the pause menu and select Mastery Rank Up at the top. That is the advancement route documented in Digital Extremes' Mastery Ranks Guide. Earning the points makes you eligible for a test; you still have to complete its objective to advance your account.

Read the challenge before attempting it. Tests have different objectives rather than one universal combat requirement, so a failed attempt is a chance to identify the particular condition you missed. Passing is the result you need for progression; visiting a replay alone is not evidence that your account has advanced.

Separate a failed attempt from a successful one

What happened?What to do
You failed the testAttempt it again; the old 24-hour failure penalty was removed.
You passed a testAllow the 23-hour success cooldown before another rank-up test.
You lack the required Mastery XPEarn new Mastery before attempting that rank's test.

In Cephalon Simaris' Relay Room, the old Practice prompt became Replay. Digital Extremes describes this as a way to revisit tests, while upcoming tests show the Mastery XP needed to access them. Look for that requirement if you are trying to reach a test you have not unlocked.

Earn new Mastery if the test is unavailable

Mastery is account progression earned by levelling different equipment. Warframe Support gives 100 points for each weapon level and 200 for each Warframe, Companion or Archwing level. For a standard weapon, 30 new levels therefore supply 3,000 points. These equipment levels and your account's Mastery Rank are separate: a weapon reaching a high level does not itself mean you passed the next account test.

Check whether the equipment has already contributed its Mastery. Polarising an item and levelling it again does not award those same points again, and neither does buying an identical second copy. Choose equipment you have not already mastered when you need new points. Repeating levels on a favourite weapon can improve that item without filling this particular progression requirement.

Recognise stale instructions and report a real fault

The official Mastery Ranks Guide still contains advice to practise before risking a 24-hour failure wait. Its older instructions explain why returning players may expect a button that no longer appears. For the changed timer and Relay prompt, follow the later Update 38 patch notes instead of that paragraph.

If the actual rank-up route remains unavailable despite meeting the displayed requirement and allowing any post-success cooldown, treat that as a separate problem. Record the rank you are attempting, the message shown, whether the previous attempt passed or failed, and your game version. A screenshot of those details is useful evidence; avoid labelling the missing Practice button itself as a malfunction.

Digital Extremes directs game bug reports to the appropriate Warframe bug forum, including its PC Bug Forums. Account assistance can be requested through a Support Ticket. Check existing forum reports before opening a ticket, choose the appropriate category and include the details you collected so the team can distinguish an eligibility question from an account or game fault.
