Use your free daily backups in War Thunder from the respawn screen during a battle that allows backups. Select your destroyed vehicle, check the backup being used and return to battle. You get five daily universal backups shared across your account's nations and modes, with a fresh allowance each day.

This covers the main game on Windows, macOS, Linux, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S, checked on 30 October 2026. The daily system arrived with Spearhead on 11 November 2025. Use the in-battle allowance rather than looking for five new items in your hangar inventory.

Use a daily backup from the respawn screen

After losing a vehicle, return to the battle's respawn window and select that vehicle again. Look for the backup indication on the deployment control: the To Battle! button has a golden appearance and a backup icon when that deployment uses a backup. Read the selected backup before confirming, particularly when you also own ordinary universal backups.

  1. Choose the destroyed vehicle you want to bring back in the current battle.
  2. Check that the mode permits a backup deployment and that the vehicle's displayed spawn requirements are satisfied.
  3. Check the backup option and its remaining allowance, then confirm the deployment using the daily backup.

Universal backups can be used directly from this window. You can leave them unassigned before a match; pre-activating one through a vehicle's Modifications window is an older preparation method. For the daily allowance, go straight to the battle where you want to use it. Returning in the selected vehicle confirms that the deployment succeeded.

Check the shared allowance and reset

Treat the five daily backups as one shared pool. Changing nation, vehicle rank or mode draws on that same allowance. For example, using two daily backups with one nation's vehicles leaves three for your other eligible deployments that day. Choose the vehicle you want to play again with that shared total in mind.

Midnight passes during a battleCheck the replenished allowance in your next battle.

Plan around GMT if you play in another time zone. Finishing a match after midnight locally can still leave you waiting when 00:00 GMT has not yet arrived.

The reset is at 00:00 GMT, and replenishment happens outside battle. Finish your current match normally when it crosses that time; the refreshed count applies in the next battle. Unused daily backups do not accumulate. Spending two today leaves three until reset, after which the daily allowance returns to five rather than becoming eight.

Separate an unavailable spawn from an empty pool

Read the information above your selected vehicle in the spawn window. It shows the relevant Spawn Points requirement, remaining spawns and backup availability. Check those conditions before spending anything: a daily backup works where backups are enabled, so having some left does not open a deployment that the mode or vehicle's remaining spawn allowance prevents.

If an exhausted daily backup stays selected, update the game before retrying. Update 2.51.0.50, released on 26 November 2025, fixed that specific selection fault so the first available backup is selected instead. Check what the game has selected before confirming; after spending today's free allowance, another deployment can use a backup you already own.

Still blocked with an available backup and an eligible deployment? Record the mode, vehicle, exact installed game version and a screenshot of the respawn window for community.gaijin.net. Keep the daily backup pool separate from the daily vehicle research bonus: that bonus has its own unlock conditions and allowances.
