To unlock Stadium Competitive in Overwatch, win 10 matches in Stadium Quick Play. Open Challenges > Stadium to check your progress, then return to Stadium and select Competitive once the requirement is complete. Players who played Stadium in Seasons 16 or 17 are exempt from this new-player requirement.
This covers PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 through the 20 October 2026 update. The ten-win rule arrived with Season 18 on 26 August 2025. Use the Stadium challenge for this unlock; ordinary Competitive Play has its own qualification challenge.
Choose Stadium Quick Play
Open Play and select Stadium, then choose Quick Play inside that section. The Quick Play option under Unranked takes you into a different queue. For this requirement, stay with Stadium Quick Play so your wins contribute to the Stadium prerequisite.

Win whole matches rather than counting individual rounds. Stadium Quick Play uses a best-of-five format: the first team to win three rounds wins the match. A single victorious round is part of that result, rather than one of your ten qualifying wins. Likewise, ten matches played only finish the requirement when all ten are wins.
Use the current Quick Play format when preparing your team. Since 6 October 2026, Stadium Quick Play has used Open Queue with limits of one Tank, two Damage and three Supports, with one Tank required. Competitive keeps its separate format. The older Role Queue label in the image above therefore describes the historical screen, rather than today's Quick Play composition.
Check your Stadium challenge
Open Challenges and choose Stadium. Read the prerequisite's counter before your next match, then compare it after a Stadium Quick Play win. Follow the remaining requirement shown there instead of using your overall account level, hero level or a rank in ordinary Competitive as a substitute.
Keep each friend's eligibility separate when you play as a group. Ask everyone to check their own Stadium prerequisite when the message says one or more party members must complete the competitive challenge. Your completed counter tells you about your account; an unfinished teammate still needs their qualifying wins.
Once your prerequisite is complete, return to Stadium and choose Competitive. The useful confirmation is that you can enter that queue, rather than simply seeing a rank elsewhere in the game. Your regular Competitive rank and Stadium progression belong to separate systems.
Recheck access for a returning player
Start with your Stadium history. The ten-win requirement excludes players who played Stadium in Seasons 16 or 17. Keep that exemption separate from having played the original Overwatch or ordinary Competitive: the relevant history is participation in Stadium during those seasons.
If an already eligible account is asked to repeat the challenge, record the message and your existing Stadium progress for a bug report. Blizzard previously identified that situation as a fault. Include your platform, challenge counter and whether you were grouped, so the report describes the access problem precisely.
Check any active competitive suspension separately. A season suspension or ban in either ordinary Competitive or Stadium blocks both for the duration of that penalty. Completing the win requirement leaves that sanction in place. For a party issue, use the current restriction shown: Stadium's old rank-based grouping restrictions were removed on 16 June 2026.
Keep cosmetic progression separate while you work through the unlock. For a portrait reward, follow the individual hero's Ascended border requirement; its level counter measures a different goal from your Stadium wins.
