Reach Hyrule Field, enable amiibo in System > Options, then select the amiibo icon in Items and press ZR to scan a figure. This route applies to the Nintendo Switch 2 release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time from 5 November 2026. Bring a figure from The Legend of Zelda series if you want to summon items for your adventure.

Reach Hyrule Field and enable amiibo

Play until you enter Hyrule Field for the first time. That first visit unlocks amiibo scanning, so if you are still in the opening part of the adventure, keep playing until you reach the field. If you are returning to a save, select Continue on the title screen. Once you have reached the field on that save, open the in-game menu with +.

Go to System, then Options. Find amiibo, select amiibo disabled, choose Enable and confirm with OK. Press B to leave Options and go to the Items tab. Select the amiibo icon at the bottom of the tab, then close the menu. The Options setting enables the feature, and the icon in Items selects it for use. Do both before reaching for the figure.

Press ZR and tap the right spot on your controller

Press ZR once you are back in the game, then touch the figure to the NFC point on your controller. For a right Joy-Con 2, use the right stick. For a Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, use the Nintendo Switch 2 logo at the top centre. If you are using an original right Joy-Con wirelessly on Switch 2, the right stick is the touchpoint on that controller too.

On an original Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, touch the figure to the Nintendo Switch logo at the top centre. Use that controller wirelessly for the scan, because its NFC reader switches off during wired play. If the game asks you to register a figure on its first scan, enter a nickname and owner. For a successful item scan, look for the rewards to appear around Link in the game world.

Check what your figure can give you

Use a compatible figure from The Legend of Zelda series to summon adventure items. You can scan up to five amiibo figures per day, so start with the figures you most want to use. To keep count across visits, use amiibo tracking in the Nintendo Switch App. Scan the same compatible figure five times over successive uses to earn a bonus use of that figure on the day you reach five.

The Young Link and Young Zelda figures from the Ocarina of Time series are due in 2027. Those are the figures to look for if you want the nostalgic masks that evoke the original game's visual style. Check the figure's series as well as its character name when you look for those rewards. During launch week, use your existing compatible Zelda figures for adventure items.

Check where a scan stops

If the setting is missing, check that this save has reached Hyrule Field. If the feature is enabled but you are still holding another item, go back to Items, select the amiibo icon at the bottom and close the menu before pressing ZR. When the problem is at the tap itself, check which controller you are holding and use its touchpoint. For an original Pro Controller, switch to a wireless connection before trying again.

If you are switching between figures, keep track of which ones you have already used that day. The Nintendo Switch App can help you track scans, while the controller remains where you tap the figure to summon items. For phone features alongside your play session, follow the Zelda Notes setup for Ocarina of Time to connect the Nintendo Switch App to your game.
