SEGA's closed network test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour is now running on Xbox Series X|S for players who were selected before registrations closed. It is not an open demo: invitations, eligible-region rules and platform capacity determine who can join. The test began at 00:00 UTC on 12 September and is scheduled to end at 00:00 UTC on 14 September. Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5 and Steam are also part of the same cross-play test, while Nintendo Switch 2 is confirmed for the finished game but is not included in this weekend's build.

The test is for invited players, not every Xbox owner

SEGA's official test page says applications closed on 1 September, so the practical detail for Xbox players is whether they already received access rather than how to sign up now. The company lists the United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Mexico and a specified group of European, Asian, Middle Eastern and Oceanian markets among the eligible regions. It also says that a development build can contain bugs or performance issues. That scope matters because the weekend is intended to test multiplayer stability, not to offer the full game early to the wider Xbox audience.

The platform list is equally specific. The network test supports Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, PlayStation 5 and Steam, with cross-play across those four versions. It does not include Xbox One. SEGA has announced Nintendo Switch 2 for the 2027 retail release, but names only the four current platforms for this test. Gematsu's report on the announcement matches that distinction and places the test window at midnight UTC from 12 September to 14 September. Players who did not register or are outside an eligible market should not expect the test client to become generally available over the weekend.

Two multiplayer modes are on the schedule

The selected build focuses on two online modes rather than the game's single-player or story material. Pickup Race has up to six players collect and deliver passengers before the clock runs out, while Cops 'N' Cabbies divides six players into two teams of three. Both can be played through ranked or custom matches, according to SEGA. The company has also limited the test content to two maps, four playable drivers, six vehicles and selected tuning options. Those details describe the test build; they do not set the final game's complete mode or vehicle list.

SEGA says participants will receive a survey when the test begins, and it encourages them to report what they encounter. The company has not announced a release date beyond 2027. For now, the concrete Xbox development is a short, invitation-only chance to test the cross-play multiplayer systems on Series X|S. The test closes at 00:00 UTC on 14 September, leaving no additional registration window for players who missed the earlier application deadline.
