Saros will receive the free Zenith update on PS5 later in 2026, adding a score-focused boss rush, a New Game+ mode called Eclipse Layers and new accessibility options. Housemarque and PlayStation have not given the update a release date beyond this year, so existing players cannot yet plan around a patch day. The useful certainty is its scope: this is post-campaign support designed both for people who want a cleaner challenge loop and for people who need more control over the game's pace.
A free update, with no date yet
PlayStation announced Zenith during its 3 September State of Play presentation, describing it as a no-extra-cost update for current Saros players. The game is already available on PlayStation 5, and the announcement does not name another console, PC version or subscription-catalogue route for the patch. That keeps the immediate practical question simple: owners will receive more modes without a separately announced expansion purchase, while prospective players still need the base game. The only timing commitment is later in 2026, rather than a month, day or update version.
That missing date is worth keeping separate from the content list. It is reasonable to expect the update before the end of the year because that is what Sony and Housemarque have said, but it would be premature to turn that into an October or holiday target. The announcement also does not set out download size, a required story-completion threshold for every feature, or whether its online elements need an active PlayStation Plus subscription. Those details may appear in release notes. For now, players can treat Zenith as confirmed free support, not as a date they need to reserve.
Overlord Rush separates the bosses from a full run
Zenith's headline addition is Overlord Rush. According to the official outline, the mode puts the powerful Overlord enemies from the main game back to back, then asks players to pursue a high score through integrated leaderboards. This changes the replay loop more than a simple difficulty toggle would. Instead of working through a whole campaign structure to meet a specific boss again, a player will be able to concentrate on successive encounters and compare the result with others. It is a clearer home for score chasing than repeating ordinary progression for one fight.
The limits are just as important. PlayStation has confirmed worldwide competition, but has not explained the scoring formula, the number of bosses in a sequence, reward structure or whether players will be able to set private challenges. Gematsu's report similarly identifies the leaderboard-based, arcade-style aim of the mode without filling in those unanswered rules. A good boss rush can make repetition purposeful, but the announced material does not yet establish how long a session lasts or what builds and unlocks will carry into it. Those are questions for the finished patch.

Eclipse Layers gives a completed campaign another route
Eclipse Layers is Zenith's New Game+ mode. Housemarque says players who have cleared the campaign can return to the beginning for a more challenging version, with additional progression options, new Carcosan Modifiers, secrets and trophies. That is more specific than a promise of a higher damage setting. The update is meant to let a completed save begin again with further ways to shape a run, although the developer has not published a full list of modifiers or explained exactly how they alter encounters. The first clear remains a meaningful boundary for this part of the update.
For a player who has reached the credits, the distinction between Eclipse Layers and Overlord Rush is useful. The boss mode appears to isolate mastery of major encounters, while New Game+ points back towards another full journey with more progression choices and hidden material. Neither announcement confirms new story chapters, areas or an expansion-sized campaign. It instead offers two replay paths with different purposes: a concentrated competitive test and a tougher return through the existing game. That framing sets sensible expectations for what a free update can add without presenting it as a sequel-sized release.
Accessibility is part of the update, not an afterthought
Zenith will also add accessibility features, including a slow game speed option, PlayStation says. This is a practical change for a game whose action can demand quick reads and sustained reactions: slowing the overall pace may give some players more time to recognise attacks and make decisions without asking them to abandon its combat entirely. Sony has not published the available speed settings, whether the option works in every mode, or how it interacts with leaderboard play. Those implementation details matter, but the feature itself is a confirmed part of the update rather than a separate promise.
Independent coverage from Game Informer also identifies slower game speed alongside the boss rush and New Game+ reveal. The sensible next step is to wait for Housemarque's detailed patch notes, particularly if accessibility settings or online ranking rules determine whether Zenith changes how you play. For everyone else, the news is more straightforward: Saros is getting free, clearly defined post-campaign support on PS5, but it does not yet have a release date. The announced additions give current players a reason to revisit Carcosa later this year without pretending every remaining question has been answered.
