No Man's Sky has received its free Cosmos Update 7.0 on PS5. Hello Games says it is the game's biggest reworking of space in a decade, changing the routes and activities between planets rather than adding a single destination. Existing players can now claim a space station, form alliances, build orbital bases and use a local star-system map to find new points of interest. The update is available today, 9 September, rather than a future seasonal rollout, so its new systems arrive alongside the game's tenth-anniversary celebrations.
Cosmos makes the station in a system something players can eventually own and decorate. According to Hello Games, becoming a director unlocks changes to the station's interior, exterior and additional rooms, while an alliance can connect different player-held stations and appear on new leaderboards. This is a more specific addition than another set of building parts: it gives players a shared location to customise and a formal group structure around it. The studio's announcement does not present ownership as immediate for every new save, saying players must first prove themselves to local authorities.
The update also adds a system map accessed from the Quick Menu. It identifies celestial bodies, the space station and deep-space locations, while marked points can provide starship navigation. Those locations include outposts, asteroid belts, debris fields and derelict hulks. Hulks can be salvaged with the game's gravity gun and a ship tractor beam, but Hello Games says damaging one too heavily can trigger a meltdown. GamesRadar's report describes this loop as the material route into station decoration, while the official update notes that outposts can process and trade salvage.
For players who want a more solitary construction project, orbital bases can be placed in free space, including around large asteroids. Cosmos also introduces the Our Journey Continues expedition, which revisits milestones from more than 40 No Man's Sky updates released over the past ten years. The PlayStation Blog says the update is free for existing PlayStation players, and Hello Games lists it as available across the game's platforms. That means PS5 owners are getting the same central space systems rather than a separate console feature set; the update does not require a PlayStation Plus tier to download it.
