EA SPORTS FC 27 gives PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners a paired current-generation version through Dual Entitlement. That is useful when a new console arrives, but it is not a blanket save transfer. Your Football Ultimate Team Club, items, Coins, FC Points, match record and leaderboard placement follow only when you use the same EA Account within the same console family. Career Mode, Online Seasons and Co-Op Seasons keep separate saves, so settle which version you want to make your long-term home before starting those modes.

01Check that your move is eligible

Dual Entitlement covers two routes: PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5, and Xbox One to Xbox Series X|S. It does not turn a PlayStation purchase into an Xbox purchase, or the other way round. EA says the matching old and new versions remain available after the upgrade, which matters if your group is still playing on the previous-generation build. This guide therefore applies to the four PlayStation and Xbox console versions only; it does not provide a route to PC, Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2.

Check the format of the copy before you buy or move it. Digital ownership can be used on the compatible newer console within its own family. For a physical PS4 or Xbox One copy, EA says the PS5 or Xbox Series console needs a disc drive to use Dual Entitlement. A digital-only PS5 or Xbox Series S cannot validate that disc. There is no documented workaround in EA's FC 27 support material, so do not trade in the older disc before confirming that your new console can read it.

02Use the same EA Account, then download the matching version

On the newer console, sign into the same platform account that owns the old-generation FC 27 copy and make sure it is linked to the same EA Account you used before. EA's support article makes that account condition explicit for transfer of Ultimate Team progress and Premium Pass access. Then download the current-generation version of FC 27 associated with that ownership. EA describes the result as owning both versions, so do not delete the old build merely because the new one is ready to install.

When you first open the current-generation version, check the Football Ultimate Team Club before spending Points or beginning a new Career. EA documents the Club, Club Items, Coins, FC Points, match record and leaderboard placement as the data shared across the paired PlayStation or Xbox generations. If those items are absent, stop before creating a replacement Club or buying more currency. Recheck the EA Account linked to the new console first; a different account is outside the transfer condition EA publishes.

03Treat Career and Seasons as separate saves

The most important limit is not a missing download; it is the boundary between online Club data and mode saves. EA lists Career Mode, Online Seasons and Co-Op Seasons among the progress that does not transfer. Each remains on the version where it was created. Starting the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version will not convert a PS4 or Xbox One Manager Career, Player Career or Seasons progress into a current-generation save, even when the same EA Account is connected.

That makes the safe order simple. Finish, archive or accept leaving behind an old-generation Career before committing serious time to a new-generation one. Keep both editions installed if you need to revisit the old save, have enough storage and still play with previous-generation friends. This is not a fault that can be fixed by copying a console save: EA's published FC 27 rule is that the affected modes stay separate between generations. Any patch changing that policy should be checked against EA Help before you rely on it.

04Choose the version your friends and features need

A newer console can still run the earlier version: EA specifically says the PS4 version can be played on PS5 and the Xbox One version on Xbox Series X|S. That is the option for a group remaining on the older-generation version. EA's Dual Entitlement FAQ says this lets you play with friends using that previous-generation version. Conversely, move to the PS5 or Xbox Series X|S version when your group is using the current-generation build and you want its version-specific improvements.

The Grounds is one reason to make that move. EA confirms it is unavailable on PS4 and Xbox One, while the current-generation versions support it. Premium Pass is tied to the EA Account and EA says it remains available after an eligible same-family upgrade. That does not make every save portable: use the current-generation version for The Grounds and its associated rewards, but keep the older version available when an old Career or old-generation multiplayer group is the priority.

The GamerGuru verdict

The safe FC 27 upgrade

Move now if
You are staying within PlayStation or Xbox, using the same EA Account, and mainly care about Ultimate Team or current-generation features.
Keep both versions if
You have an active Career, Seasons save or friends who remain on the previous-generation build.
Stop and check first if
Your disc cannot be read by the newer console or your Ultimate Team Club is missing after sign-in.

Dual Entitlement preserves the online FC 27 Club data EA lists, but it does not merge every mode into one save. Pick the version before you build a new Career around it.
