When Epochs stop unlocking in Slay the Spire 2, check your run type and whether you loaded modded or unmodded progress first. Daily and Custom runs cannot earn Epochs. A separate bug that loses an earned Epoch has an automatic repair on the public beta branch.

These checks cover the Steam game on Windows, macOS and Linux as of 5 November 2026. The default branch is v0.107.1, released on 19 June. Major Update #1, v0.103.2, brought the Daily and Custom restriction to the default branch on 17 April UTC. The lost-Epoch repair arrived in beta v0.110.0 on 31 July UTC and remains beta-only ahead of the planned 12 November update.

Check whether the run could earn Epochs

Start with the mode you actually played. Choose a normal run when you want to advance your unlocks. Daily and Custom runs have their own warnings explaining that they cannot award Epochs or achievements, so completing a strong run in either mode still leaves that progression unavailable. Return to normal play before repeating an unlock attempt.

During a run, check the icon in the top bar that marks unavailable Epochs and achievements. Hover over your character icon for the explanation. This gives you a check before investing another full climb in the same conditions. Keep your intended unlock separate from the Daily leaderboard: its ranking uses victory, badges and completion time, while unlock progression has its own rules.

Return to the progress track you used

Next, compare like with like. Launch with the same modded or unmodded state you used for the run, then inspect the Timeline. The game keeps those saves separate as a protective measure. Progress made with mods enabled stays on that side; switching to unmodded play shows your unmodded progress instead. The reverse applies when you return to mods.

On beta v0.108.0 and later, your unmodded saves are copied when you launch modded play for the first time, with a popup explaining the process. Treat that as a starting copy. Later unlocks on the two sides continue separately. After earning an Epoch with mods enabled, return to modded play to look for it rather than expecting the vanilla Timeline to update too.

Keep your existing files intact while checking this. Changing mod state helps identify which progress you are viewing; it does not merge the two tracks. Once you have found the progress from your run, check the Timeline there before starting another climb or changing branches.

Use the repair branch for a lost Epoch

If an Epoch earned as a run ended disappeared and left the Timeline blocked, use the branch containing the targeted repair. Beta v0.110.0 fixes that specific loss and repairs affected saves when they load. For the default version, you can wait for the planned main-branch catch-up on 12 November; that date is a plan, so check the release notes when it arrives.

To try the repair now, close the game, right-click Slay the Spire 2 in your Steam Library and open Properties, then Game Versions & Betas. Select public-beta and let Steam finish updating. Launch the game and load the affected progress with the same mod state as before, then inspect the Timeline. The repair happens on load; you do not need to edit the save.

Expect experimental changes when choosing public-beta. To return to the standard release, revisit Game Versions & Betas and select Default Public Version. Keep your branch choice separate from modded versus unmodded saves: one selects the game build, while the other determines which progression you see.

Report a Timeline that stays blocked

Still stuck after checking the mode, progress track and repair branch? Press F2 in the game to send feedback. Include your version and branch, whether mods were loaded, which Epoch is missing and what happened at the end of the run. Describe the result after loading the affected progress so the report distinguishes a missing earned Epoch from a run that could not award one.
