To get blueprint fragments in Rust, target monument puzzle rooms for Basic Blueprint Fragments and hackable crates for Advanced Blueprint Fragments. Workbench Level 2 needs five Basic fragments; Level 3 needs five Advanced fragments.

This guide covers the Steam PC game on servers using standard progression rules, checked against the October 2026 update. Community servers can modify the game, so check their rules before assuming that the same loot and crafting requirements apply.

Collect Basic fragments from keycard rooms

Prepare a Green Keycard and Electric Fuse before attempting a powered green-card puzzle. Facepunch lists Gas Station, Junkyard, Lighthouse and Supermarket as starting locations for green cards. Fuses come from world crates. Restore the puzzle's power using its fuse box and switches, then swipe at a powered reader. The switch layout varies by monument; carrying the right card alone does not supply power.

Search the room for the fragment itself. Facepunch documents one Basic fragment in green puzzle rooms and two beside the Red Keycard in blue-card puzzles. A green room followed by a blue room therefore yields three when both have refreshed. Dome, Ferry Terminal and Radtown also have green-card puzzles.

Find Advanced fragments in higher-tier loot

Hackable crates guarantee Advanced fragments; elite crates have a one-in-ten chance. Advanced fragments spawn in pairs. Targets include Oil Rigs, Cargo Ship and the CH47 crate event. These are contested destinations, so choose an event you can reach and survive rather than treating the guarantee as a safe pickup.

The fallback is converting 20 Basic fragments into one Advanced fragment. Five Advanced fragments would therefore consume 100 Basic fragments. Keep the five Basic fragments needed for Level 2 separate if you still need that bench.

Leave empty puzzle rooms to reset

Do not wait inside a cleared loot room for another fragment. November 2025's Pivot Or Die patch changed most keycard monuments: their refresh timer starts after someone loots a puzzle-room container and continues while players are nearby. Ten minutes before refresh, severe, unsurvivable radiation starts around loot rooms and relevant puzzle switches or fuse boxes. Leave before exposing yourself; radiation gear is not a solution to that reset hazard.

Once the radiation is active, the puzzle can reset only after its checked area has been clear of players for five minutes in total. Other players can delay that clearance. PC Gamer's reporting describes the same reset problem and changes; an empty room is not proof that fragments have been removed from the game.

Confirm the haul by checking the fragment type and count in your inventory. Scrap alone will not replace them: Pivot Or Die removed workbench scrap crafting costs but retained fragment requirements. Check the bench's crafting recipe before spending your collected resources.
