You can change the coastline, furnish the garden and take a fuzzy neighbour out among the stars in Petit Planet. HoYoverse's life sim gives you a small world of your own, then puts other places and people within travelling distance. The appealing combination is a home you can keep rearranging and somewhere to go when you fancy leaving it. A whole planet sounds grand; the work starts with crops, furniture and company.

The free-to-download game launches on PC, iOS and Android on 4 December, with pre-download opening on 1 December. Today's pre-launch programme has filled out the invitation, including more than 1,000 clothing and furniture items obtainable through play. This preview focuses on the PC release. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned for 2027, giving Nintendo players a later point of entry into the same gently fantastical setting.

A home with room to change

Your role is Planet Tender. The Starsea is the surrounding universe, and the planet is the place you cultivate within it. Farming, fishing, cooking and beachcombing supply the everyday activities, with home decoration and landscape shaping giving those days a creative direction. The scale is a lovely fit for a life sim: you have something that belongs to you, small enough for a house and garden to remain its centre of attention.

HoYoverse calls the vitality running through this world Luca. Growing bonds with neighbours and helping your planet thrive bring changes to its landscape. The Luca Arbor grows as you gather Luca through everyday activities. There's a useful connection between the ordinary jobs and the larger setting here: spending time in the place helps develop the place itself. The trees, terrain and seasons give that development a visible destination beyond another roomful of belongings.

Decoration extends indoors and out, and the coastline and sky are part of the customisation. That is an enticing amount of a scene to compose. The official furniture artwork ranges from a kitchen with counters and stools to a plant-filled study and a warm red sitting area. These are recognisable domestic spaces with their own colours and uses, which gives the planetary premise a pleasantly homely centre. The star traveller still has somewhere to put a chair.

Take a neighbour on the voyage

The animal-like Neighbors have personalities, stories and ambitions of their own. You can invite them to settle on your planet, talk with them and give them gifts. Meals and strolls are also ways to spend time together. That range suits a game about building familiarity: the residents have a place in the daily routine, alongside the plots and furnishings. Their company continues when you decide to travel.

Starsea Voyage uses a map and vehicles to take you and your neighbours out to Islets. Exploration brings materials, creatures and further encounters. The official travel image has a particularly charming destination: a great glowing crescent moon rising behind a little patch of flowers. It captures the attraction of this setting immediately. A voyage can lead somewhere playfully strange while keeping the small, approachable scale of the home you left behind.

For players who enjoy collecting and arranging things, those journeys give the home another source of discoveries. For players more interested in characters, they offer company beyond the doorstep. That makes travel a useful part of the overall shape, with residents, resources and places sharing the same outings. If a quieter building project appeals, our look at making a home in Lightyear Frontier's wilderness explores another upcoming invitation to settle in.

Company at the Galactic Bazaar

The Galactic Bazaar is the meeting place for other Planet Tenders. HoYoverse has described coffee, bonfires, fortune-telling, dancing and auctions among its social activities. It gives the game a public destination alongside the personal planet and the exploratory voyage. You can spend time with the residents at home, take them travelling or head for a space organised around meeting other players. Each has a clear place in the same life sim.

Today's programme also introduced Starlight Blueprint, a way to save furniture arrangements and import another player's setup, as covered by Inven Global. Sharing a room design is an especially useful social feature for this kind of game. It gives players who enjoy arranging furniture something tangible to pass around, and offers someone who likes an existing layout a starting point for their own home. The creativity can travel between planets too.

There are purchases alongside the free download: the Epic Games Store lists in-game purchases including random items. Exact shop prices and odds remain unconfirmed. The announced collection of over 1,000 earnable clothing and furniture items is substantial enough to make the free selection worth examining at launch, particularly if dressing characters and decorating rooms are your main reasons to play. Keep the shop in mind when deciding how much time and money to commit.

Petit Planet's December invitation is easy to understand. Build somewhere you like looking at, get to know its residents and take a trip when curiosity wins. The coastline and sky give decorators a wider canvas, while the neighbours and Islets give that home a surrounding life. On PC, 4 December is the date to set aside for your first small world. The most attractive prospect is having both a garden to return to and someone to bring along.
