To level up an Archetype in EA SPORTS FC 27 Clubs, earn Archetype XP, or AXP, by playing games and completing Objectives in The Grounds. Choose the build you want to develop before using Instant AXP: it goes to your active Archetype, not automatically to your preferred position.
This guide covers the PC version's launch progression system, released on 25 September 2026 in the UK, and EA's guidance checked on 5 October. The Grounds and Clubs also exist on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2; these instructions are scoped to PC. They do not describe Player Career progression.
Choose the Archetype receiving your AXP
Every Archetype is available from the start. You do not need an unlock card or a Coins purchase before trying another role. You can change builds in The Grounds, the Clubhouse and supported match lobbies. Make that choice before accelerating progression, especially when switching to fill a position your Club needs.
- League lobby: return to the bench if you have selected a pitch position, then open Player Management and select Archetypes.
- Rush or Drop-In lobby: open the Archetypes tab, then select Archetypes.
Make your changes and return to the lobby. EA's Archetype screen identifies the selected build and shows its level; check that identity before playing or applying an item. Changing builds gives you access to another style, but does not mean every Archetype has gained the levels you earned on the previous one.
Earn AXP through matches and Objectives
EA confirms that street activities and stadium competition award AXP and Grounds Coins. Club Tournaments and Playoffs can offer greater rewards, but the launch documentation does not establish a universal fastest mode or an AXP-per-hour result. Choose an available activity you can complete, rather than relying on an unverified farming rate.
Open the Objectives screen before your session. Tasks can be daily, weekly, event-specific or seasonal, and their rewards can include AXP Consumables. EA suggests combining compatible Objectives: for example, a scoring challenge across The Grounds with a requirement to play a particular mode. Read each task's conditions; progress in one activity is useful only if that activity meets the stated requirement.
Check the item before using a boost
Open Consumables within Archetypes and inspect the item information. A multiplier increases the AXP you earn over its specified match allowance; Instant AXP adds experience directly. FC 27 also has targeted consumables restricted to a named Archetype or a group, such as midfield builds. Check the eligible build, amount and duration rather than treating every AXP card as interchangeable.

For Instant AXP, compare your current level with the item's Archetype Level Cap. You must be below that limit. A cap of 25 on one consumable does not mean your Archetype can only reach level 25. If your level is already too high, look for an eligible item or continue earning AXP through gameplay; buying another copy of the same restricted item does not change its requirement.

Before applying a multiplier, inspect what is already active. EA specifically warns that a Party AXP Multiplier can replace an active consumable, losing its remaining matches or boosts. Do not assume multipliers stack. Finish the existing allowance first if you want to preserve it; replacement is a choice to give up that remaining benefit.
Separate levels, Masteries and temporary boosts
Dexerto's progression reporting describes separate levelling paths for each Archetype. Masteries are the permanent benefit that can carry across builds: EA's example is Finisher at level 10, which grants +1 Finishing and +1 Composure to every Archetype. That is a shared Attribute bonus, not shared levels or a transfer of all your AXP.
Amps are different again: their performance benefits last for a limited number of matches. After earning AXP, check the intended Archetype's level and progression rather than using a temporary Attribute increase as proof of a level-up. If an item cannot be used, recheck the active build and its item-specific limit before spending more Coins or Points.
