Cyberpunk 2077 cross progression not working?

If cross progression is not working in Cyberpunk 2077, return to the device with your latest progress, connect your CD PROJEKT RED account and create a new save. Wait for its cloud icon, then connect the same account on the other device. If the save appears but will not load, check its expansion and mods before changing anything else.

Choose the right service for your copy

Moving between an Xbox Series X|S and the Xbox PC version? Cyberpunk 2077 now supports Xbox Play Anywhere. Sign into the same Microsoft account that owns the digital Xbox or Windows Store game. Your Xbox progress follows that account. Play Anywhere covers digital purchases; a console disc does not grant the PC copy.

For a Steam or GOG copy, or a move involving PS5 or Nintendo Switch 2, use the game's CD PROJEKT RED cross-progression service. That account connection gives you the save-transfer route between storefronts. Check that you have access to the game on the destination platform separately: transferring a character does not supply a game licence for another shop.

Upload the save you actually want

Finish available game updates on both devices and check the version shown in the main menu. On the device holding your progress, open Load Game and select the Cross Progression control shown at the bottom left. Follow the account-linking instructions. You can enable the service through Settings > Gameplay > Enable cross-platform Saves.

Load your latest working local save, then create a new manual save in a separate slot and look for its cloud icon. Cross progression supplies the latest save of each type, including manual, quick and automatic saves. It is a way to carry recent progress between devices, so choose the point you want to transfer before creating that new save.

Connect the destination and check Load Game

Launch the game on the destination device, select My Rewards and connect the same CD PROJEKT RED account. Open Load Game and look for the newly uploaded entry. On Update 2.5, saves are grouped by playthrough, so check the intended character's group as well as the save's date. Keep the original local save until the transferred one loads successfully.

If the new entry is absent, return to the source and check whether that specific save acquired its cloud icon. Confirm the account identity in the game on both devices. If the entry appears but loading fails, move on to content compatibility. Repeatedly overwriting an older working save makes neither check easier; retain it while you investigate.

Match Phantom Liberty on the other device

A save made with Phantom Liberty installed needs that expansion on the destination too. Install the required content before loading it. A base-game save can move into Ultimate Edition, which includes the expansion, but the reverse fails when the receiving installation lacks the required content. Seeing a save in the list and having everything needed to open it are separate checks.

For an Xbox Play Anywhere purchase, Microsoft's programme includes purchased add-ons across its supported Xbox and Windows versions. Check the destination's entitlement and installation before buying again. When moving to a different storefront, check that store's expansion ownership separately. Keep playing the original installation if the destination still refuses a save after the required content is installed.

Match the mods before loading

Update 2.5 adds cross-platform mods and marks modded saves with a mod.io cog icon. Such a save needs the same set of mods enabled on both platforms. Subscriptions follow your CD PROJEKT RED account, but unsupported console mods are ignored. On PC, check each mod's Available on consoles tag before planning to continue that character on a console.

On the destination, open Mods from the main menu, connect your account to mod.io and subscribe to the required compatible mods. Restart the game, then check the Installed section: each required mod must appear with its checkbox selected. If a required mod is unavailable there, continue on the original device or choose a separate save created before using those mods. Console trophies and achievements are disabled on modded saves.

Keep the working copy if the transfer still fails

Check regional editions if a PC-to-console transfer fails despite matching content. An unrestricted save cannot load into a more restrictive regional version, including affected Japanese and Middle Eastern editions. Loading it on an unrestricted installation remains the appropriate route. For an unresolved sync or loading fault, give CD PROJEKT RED Support both platforms, installed versions, account-link status, the cloud-icon result and the exact error.

Continue from the original working save while the remaining fault is investigated. Preserve that copy rather than deleting saved data or reinstalling everything as a first response. Once the transferred character loads, any build change is a separate decision: check the one-time attribute-reset limit before redistributing V's points.
