Mario Kart World version 1.8.0 is now available for Nintendo Switch 2, adding 10 courses based on the original Super Mario Kart to more of the game's race modes. Nintendo says the free update also adds Propeller Rally and Turnip Rally to Knockout Tour, plus Time Trials information, Photo Mode filters and a spectator camera option. The new software is required for online features, and Nintendo Switch Online remains necessary for the game's online play. The update is not available for the original Nintendo Switch because Mario Kart World is a Switch 2 release.
The 10 SNES courses can be selected in VS Race and Time Trials, as well as races in Online Play and Wireless Play. Nintendo's UK support notes list three versions each of Mario Circuit and Ghost Valley, two Choco Island tracks, and one course each from Vanilla Lake and Koopa Beach. The courses appear under existing Mario Kart World locations rather than as a separate cup. Their item panels follow the Super Nintendo original's format, replacing the floating item boxes normally found on the newer game's races.
Knockout Tour receives two routes: Propeller Rally, which links Acorn Heights with Airship Fortress, and Turnip Rally, which runs between DK Pass and Shy Guy Bazaar. Nintendo says they unlock after a player has cleared at least one existing Knockout Tour Rally. That condition applies to picking the new routes; it is not a paid add-on or a separate download. The mode starts 24 racers on a continuous route and removes players who miss checkpoints at the required rank, so the update gives its elimination format two more named routes without changing how a rally is entered.
Version 1.8.0 also adds a per-lap time display in Time Trials and changes the colour used for differences against ghost data: faster times appear red and slower ones blue. Photo Mode gains a filter option, while a Y Button control can switch the camera to a player's perspective during spectating or play in races, Knockout Tour and Battle mode. Nintendo's North American update page describes Spectator Mode as available for groups in Online Play or LAN Play. Players who have not received the update automatically can select Mario Kart World on the Switch 2 HOME Menu, press + or -, then choose Software Update and Via the Internet.
