Ubisoft is testing a different way to start Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown through Steam. The publisher's 10 September announcement says the new Ubisoft Connect Services tool keeps cross-progression, cross-play, player-safety tools, challenges and rewards without requiring the separate Ubisoft Connect PC launcher to be installed or launched. The initial test is currently limited to this one Steam game.
That leaves the practical Steam flow narrower, rather than removing Ubisoft's services altogether. Ubisoft says Connect Services still delivers the account-linked features associated with the game, but its post does not say whether players need a Ubisoft account or describe changes for copies bought through other PC storefronts. The announcement only confirms that the distinct Ubisoft Connect PC application is no longer required for the tested Steam version.
Ubisoft calls the current version an initial step and says Connect Services will progressively evolve before reaching more Ubisoft games on Steam. It has not named those games or given a timetable. Players with another Ubisoft title should therefore not assume the new launch path already applies to their library, even though the service is available for The Lost Crown.
The distinction matters for the platform's compatibility and access conditions. The release note promises that familiar Ubisoft features remain part of the Steam build, not that the game has become independent of Ubisoft's online systems. PC Gamer's reporting also identifies the change as a test rather than a catalogue-wide removal of Connect, and notes that the announcement does not settle the separate question of account requirements.
For now, the confirmed change is a more direct Steam start for one game, with Ubisoft's services supplied through the new tool. Ubisoft has made no claim that every Steam release, its own store releases, or other PC editions will follow on a set date. Further game-by-game announcements will determine how far the test extends. Until Ubisoft names a specific Steam title in a future notice, the wider scope remains unknown.
