Continue a Trails demo savein the full PC game

Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter has reached its full Steam release, and the publisher says a save from its free demo can carry over to continue the journey. For a PC player, the useful route is not a new game or a re-run of the demo. Update the full version, launch that version from Steam, then use its title-screen Load Game option to open the demo save. The transfer is for the second chapter's own demo progress; it is separate from the rewards attached to clear data from 1st Chapter.

Prepare the full Steam release first

Buy or install the full PC game through Steam, then let it finish updating before trying to load anything. The full Steam page lists the release as available and identifies the demo separately, while Inven Global's report says the full game needs to be on its latest version when a demo save is carried over. That is the one update check worth making before assuming a missing slot is a problem with the save itself. Close the demo once it has made a normal save, but keep its installed data in place until the full version has opened your progress successfully.

This guide is deliberately limited to the PC Steam version. It does not promise a route from a PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 demo into a PC copy, because the sources checked describe platform-specific menus and do not document a cross-platform migration. The relevant starting point is therefore a demo save already made for the Steam release. If you never saved in the demo, or are trying to move a save between different platform families, the documented PC Load Game route does not establish a workaround.

Load the demo slot from the title screen

Start the full game from the Steam library and go to Load Game on its title screen. Inven Global reports that the Steam and PlayStation 5 versions load demo data directly from that menu, unlike the Nintendo versions' Transfer menu. Select the demo slot there rather than choosing New Game. Once it loads, continue as normal and make a fresh full-game save when you reach a safe point. That gives you a clear confirmation that the full release, rather than the demo executable, is now holding the progress you intend to keep playing.

If no demo slot appears, confirm that you opened the full game rather than the demo and that the full game has completed its update. Do not immediately rename or move save files by hand. Neither the publisher's Steam information nor the reported Steam instructions provide a manual file-path procedure, so that would be guesswork rather than a supported recovery step. Preserve the existing demo installation and save data while checking the title-screen menu again. If the slot remains absent after those basic checks, use the publisher's support route before overwriting anything with a new full-game save.

Keep the two kinds of carry-over separate

The demo transfer continues progress made in 2nd Chapter. It is not the same system as importing completed data from Trails in the Sky 1st Chapter. Steam says clear data from the earlier game can award bonus items in 2nd Chapter, while the demo announcement says the demo save continues the journey in the full version. Both can matter to a returning player, but they answer different questions. Do not interpret a 1st Chapter reward as proof that the demo slot loaded, and do not expect loading the demo to replace the earlier game's clear-data check.

Keep expectations narrow after the successful load. The publisher confirms that save data can carry over, but the Steam wording does not publish a separate list of every item, setting or completion effect that transfers. The demo announcement also cautions that some demo specifications may differ from the final game. The practical test is simple: open the expected second-chapter save in the full version, verify its story position and party state, then make a new save. That avoids inventing guarantees the published material does not make and protects the progress the guide is meant to preserve.
