A fake Baratie is selling overpriced food and ruining the real restaurant's name. Luffy and Sanji's response in ONE PIECE: Grand Gourmet is to open another branch, Baratie Number Two, and you join as a rookie member of staff. It's a wonderfully domestic reason to set sail: the Straw Hats have a reputation to rescue, and this time the answer involves dinner.

Kairosoft's restaurant management sim is scheduled for 23 October on PC, Switch and Switch 2, according to Bandai Namco. Steam currently displays 22 October, so check the date on your own storefront rather than treating the publisher's date as a universal unlock time. The confirmed routine is cooking, arranging menus, decorating the ship and attracting customers. Familiar faces appear on both sides of the counter, as staff and diners.

Sanji has the recipes; you choose the set

The dishes have the right kind of absurdity for this crew. Bandai Namco names Water-Water Meat BBQ and Sea King Penne Gorgonzola among the recipes, alongside creations inspired by Devil Fruit powers. Characters contribute ideas, you choose ingredients and Sanji helps cook. Finished dishes can then be arranged into meal sets, with adventures supplying more recipes. There is a clear progression from finding something for the kitchen to deciding how to serve it.

The publisher's menu screenshot gives that process a useful shape. Captain's Combo Plate sits beside a side dish, dessert and drink, with separate candidate counts and a Change Garnish button. That is a more inviting picture of the job than a vague instruction to cook delicious food: you're assembling a whole order, down to the accompanying drink. It also gives the series' extravagant food somewhere to belong beyond a decorative background gag.

A restaurant with its own regulars

The interior is part of attracting diners. Bandai Namco confirms more than 200 furniture, building and decorative items, including Whole Cake Island's dessert-themed pieces and futuristic Egghead designs. Characters have preferences for food and decor, and fulfilling requests helps build a returning clientele. The attraction is choosing a look with someone in mind: the game gives a reason to care about who walks through the door as well as how the room looks.

More than 400 characters appear as customers and staff, with character events and special interactions promised by the publisher. Its September gameplay guide also says customers can open special shops inside the restaurant, while the crew can train to improve service. These details give the floating restaurant several jobs beyond selling meals. The scale of that roster is appealing for a fan, though a character count alone cannot tell us how substantial each encounter will be.

The demo's busy first shift

UnGeek's Nicolo Manaloto tried a short demo and found a familiar restaurant-sim loop: develop menus and improve the interior, attract more diners, then spend the earnings on further improvements. His account describes choosing an Alabasta theme and unlocking furniture that changed the restaurant's appearance. That is useful independent evidence that the decorating already offers recognisable choices, rather than only a list of locations in promotional copy. He did not see much of the promised character interaction.

Manaloto also found the tutorial delivered a barrage of information too quickly, although the systems became intuitive once he had his bearings. He explicitly leaves open whether that pace was specific to the demo. Newcomers should keep that observation in mind without reading it as a verdict on the finished game. Grand Gourmet's clearest audience is the One Piece fan who likes assembling menus and furnishing a busy little business. The pleasure documented here is serving familiar characters a meal in a room you've chosen for them.
