FINAL FANTASY XIV Beastmaster is ready to unlock on PC in Patch 7.56, but a new character cannot simply pick it at level 1. Square Enix puts a clear gate in front of the limited job: complete the main-scenario quest The Ultimate Weapon, then arrive on any Disciple of War or Magic at level 50. Once both conditions are met, the starting quest is available in New Gridania. Beastmaster itself starts at level 1 and has its own maximum level of 50, so the level-50 requirement belongs to the character that opens the job, not to the new job after it is equipped.
Check the two conditions before travelling
First, use a combat job at level 50 or higher. Square Enix's Patch 7.56 notes specify a Disciple of War or Magic level 50 for Beastmaster's opening quest. A crafting or gathering job does not meet that stated requirement, even if its level is higher. You do not need to level Beastmaster in advance: it has no corresponding base class and begins at level 1 after the unlock. If your active combat job is below 50, the fastest useful next step is to level that job before returning to New Gridania, rather than searching for a separate Beastmaster trainer.
The other gate is story progress. Complete The Ultimate Weapon, the A Realm Reborn main-scenario quest named in the official requirements. The patch notes do not list a later expansion quest, a character level above 50, or a separate unlock currency. That matters for returning players who have finished later side content but may have paused the main scenario: the named quest is the test to check in the Duty Finder or Journal. If the New Gridania quest is absent, confirm both the current job and this main-scenario completion before treating it as a Patch 7.56 installation problem.
Take Strangers in the Wood in New Gridania
With those two conditions met, travel to New Gridania and speak to the Excited Adventurer at X:11.8, Y:13.6. The quest is called Strangers in the Wood. Square Enix lists that NPC, location and quest name in its Patch 7.56 notes, so those are the reliable details to use rather than following an old Blue Mage route or an unverified player map. Accept and follow the quest's prompts to receive the new job. The official notes do not set a time limit, a seasonal window or a paid side-quest requirement for this opening step.
After the quest changes your options, equip the Beastmaster job and expect to begin from level 1. It uses melee DPS gear shared with monk and samurai, according to Square Enix, but it does not have a conventional class to level first. Its opening tools are built around forming pacts with familiars: the job learns Gauge and Capture at level 1. Gauge checks whether a targeted beast can be befriended and how difficult the attempt may be; Capture applies the required effect, then the beast must be defeated while it remains active. A failed pact attempt is possible, so weakening a target first improves the chance.

Know what the limited-job label changes
Beastmaster is not a standard way to queue for every activity. Square Enix classifies it as a limited job, like Blue Mage, and says Beastmasters cannot use role actions. They can enter duties with other players in preformed or unrestricted parties, but Duty Roulettes and several named activities remain unavailable. This is worth knowing before you switch jobs for an evening with friends: unlocking the axe does not mean it can replace a regular melee DPS in any matchmaking plan. The job earns extra experience from FATEs, while its open-world enemy experience does not receive Blue Mage-style bonuses.
Its solo progression destination unlocks later. The Crucible of the Unbroken requires Beastmaster level 30 and the relevant job quest; it is not part of the level-50 character gate that opens Beastmaster itself. The official notes describe the Crucible as a solo duty where the player chooses familiars and clears boards, so leave it for after the introductory job quests rather than looking for it in New Gridania immediately. For the immediate answer, keep the sequence simple: level a combat job to 50, finish The Ultimate Weapon, speak to the Excited Adventurer, then start learning Beastmaster from level 1.
