A familiar landmark can become unrecognisable in Edge of Memories. As Eline's journey advances, the Corrosion spreads through places she has already visited, opening new routes through the altered landscape. Midgar Studio's account of returning to these areas gives its fantasy apocalypse a practical attraction: there is something new to find on ground you thought you knew.
This is an action RPG set on Avaris, a continent whose plants, animals and people are being warped by the plague. Eline is a travelling Soul Whisperer who offers comfort to its inhabitants. After a mysterious encounter, she gains the ability to control the Corrosion in her own body. Her travelling companions include Ysoris, an unlikely mentor, and Kanta, a shaman prince from a lost tribe.
The full game is scheduled for 5 November on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Steam still lists it as coming soon. For anyone curious about Midgar's follow-up to Edge of Eternity, the confirmed appeal is a journey across a changing continent, with real-time combos and companion skills supplying the fighting.
Back through the Corrosion
Midgar's February exploration post describes landmarks becoming hard to recognise, new paths opening in corrupted areas, and obstacles that can be eradicated to reach further into them. Crucially, the developer connects those changes to story progression. This is no confirmation of an infection simulation ticking away while you stand still, or of a deadline for saving every settlement.
The idea is appealing on its own terms. Revisiting a place can involve finding another way through it, as well as seeing what has happened there. The official store description also gives Eline a Nekaroo, a feline mount whose agility provides access to otherwise unreachable areas. Between changed routes and a capable mount, exploration has more definition than a list of pretty destinations.

Eline fights with company
In combat, the official description pairs rapid strikes with heavier techniques, lets you customise companions and call on their skills, and gives Eline a Berserker transformation. Midgar says its new system is built around chaining combos and perfect dodges. It puts the emphasis on attack sequences and timing, with allies contributing to Eline's offence.
CGMagazine's Jordan Biordi found the June demo's light and heavy attacks straightforward to combine, with additional variations unlocking as characters levelled up. He also described party members supplying elemental attacks that kept the fighting moving. His account offers a useful picture of the early combat: frequent groups of enemies, a manageable starting move set, and companions adding more options.
That build was rough. Biordi reported animation problems and some difficult-to-read enemy attacks. On 26 June, Midgar acknowledged work on combat reactions, damage balancing and performance; its September update says it has since refined gameplay, fixed bugs and adjusted numbers. Those updates describe work undertaken, rather than independently establishing that the demo's problems have disappeared. The June demo also closed on 30 June, so older invitations to download it are out of date.
The return trips are the detail that earns Edge of Memories a place on the action RPG radar. Recognising a landmark is usually enough to get your bearings; here, Midgar says that recognition can fail as the story advances. Revisiting Avaris means looking for the new route through somewhere familiar. That's a good reason to bring exploration into a game with so much fighting.
