A Scout's fuel tank tells you how long they can keep flying. In Attack on Titan 3, it also gives you a reason to head home. Special Exterior Missions send you beyond the walls with a squad, a supply of blades and a decision about how far to push into Titan country. Omega Force's action game retells the whole story, and these expeditions give your own Scout some decisions to make along the way.

The game arrives on 10 December 2026 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam. In the UK it's called A.O.T. 3. The campaign takes the Scout Regiment from its early days through to the finale, with rebuilt scenes from earlier games, new story developments and new battles involving the Nine Titans. You create a Scout and go through the story alongside its established cast. It's a natural starting point if you've watched the anime and skipped the previous games.

Special Exterior Missions

Outside the walls, the scouts can build supply bases and fight Titans as they extend the territory humans can reach. You decide how long to keep exploring. Fuel keeps your mobility gear running, blades are a separate supply to watch, and squad morale can make the difference between an expedition that holds together and one that goes badly. The price of pressing on can be lasting injury or the death of a squad member. Heading back is part of the job.

Each member of the Scout Regiment brings their own skills to the squad. That gives you something to consider when you assemble one at headquarters, before fuel and morale come into play. It's a single-player game, and there's appeal in having a familiar face from the anime along for an expedition where their abilities have a practical use. Back at regimental headquarters, spending time with characters can unlock events and improve their abilities in battle. You can also recruit people you rescue on expeditions. The squad you take out can grow because of whom you help while you're there.

You clear the Titans around a proposed site before you can put a supply base there. A fight can open a new foothold for the next stretch of the expedition. There are materials to bring home for developing gear and belongings to recover from fallen soldiers. Our look at the paths between Phantom Blade Zero's fights follows another action game with an interest in the ground between encounters. For the Scouts, the land between fights is also somewhere to resupply and recover what others left behind.

Fighting with ODM gear

The gear is a set of cable launchers and gas-powered equipment that lets Scouts move through the air. It makes the approach part of the attack. You can swing in with your blades drawn, and the familiar target on a Titan's nape gives that movement a purpose. A gas-powered boost can send a Scout upwards from a jump, whip them around an anchor or carry them in a slide along the ground. The Titans have new attacks and behaviours, and a character fighting at your side can help knock one off balance to expose its nape.

Casual Mode offers simpler controls for anyone drawn to the story who wants an easier way into the aerial manoeuvres. That's a welcome option in a game where movement is so closely tied to landing a blow. PC players get remappable mouse and keyboard controls and gamepad support. The PC version also supports ultrawide displays, HDR and high refresh rates with suitable hardware, so there's room to configure the view if you prefer a wider picture of the battlefield.

Returning to the Scout Regiment

There's a neat extra for returning players. If you have save data from Attack on Titan 2 or Attack on Titan 2: Final Battle on the system where you play the new game, you get a squad member with the previous protagonist's name and unique skills. On PS5 that means PS4 save data stored on the PS5. The same arrangement applies to Switch save data on Switch 2. Bringing a name from your old save into the new squad is an apt bonus for a sequel that puts your custom Scout alongside the familiar cast.

MAPPA, the studio behind the anime's final season, is making the opening animation, with Arifumi Imai directing. The animation is planned for an update after launch. The campaign itself gives longtime viewers the chance to play through the final stretch of the story, with Japanese voices and English text available at release.

For anyone coming back for that finale, the campaign supplies the big battles and the characters they remember. The expeditions offer a different scale of responsibility. A supply base is somewhere your Scout has helped establish, and the people travelling with you are the ones you chose to bring. Out there, a good day for the Regiment can end with everyone and their gear safely back inside the walls.
