On April 6, 2023, the Global Esports Federation (GEF) joined the organization Peace and Sport to raise the #WhiteCard on the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP). This event recognizes the positive role that sports, and esports, play in communities around the world. The GEF encourages individuals and organizations to share their commitment to sport as a tool for social change by raising their #WhiteCard on social media.
What is the #WhiteCard?
The #WhiteCard is a global symbol of peace and solidarity through sport and esports. It encourages individuals and organizations to share their commitment to sport as a tool for social change. By raising the #WhiteCard, the GEF and its supporters are promoting the values of equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion, and innovation.
GEF's commitment to promoting peace
Chris Chan, President of GEF, expressed his pride in supporting the IDSDP and raising the #WhiteCard. He stated that
"Esports and sports have tremendous potential to bring people together, break down barriers, and promote understanding, and we are committed to harnessing that potential for the benefit of all."
Joël Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport, praised the GEF's support for the IDSDP. He stated that
"Their commitment to promoting the values of equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion, and innovation aligns perfectly with the spirit of the IDSDP, and we look forward to working together to promote peace through sport and esports."
GEF's past events promoting peace
The GEF has previously demonstrated its commitment to promoting peace through sports and esports. The staging of the Global Esports Games in Singapore 2021 and Istanbul 2022, and the Commonwealth Esports Championships in Birmingham last year, were successful events that advanced the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and supported peace and human rights.
The GEF is encouraging individuals and organizations around the world to raise the #WhiteCard and show their support for the IDSDP. By promoting the values of equality, fair play, diversity, inclusion, and innovation, the GEF is taking a step towards making a difference through sports and esports. As Chris Chan stated, "Together, we can make a difference through sport, and esports."
